counterfeit love

Debut author Crystal Caudill pens a suspenseful historical romance set in the Gilded Age in Cincinnati, Ohio.

In Counterfeit Love, Theresa Plane lives with her grandfather, and tries to clear her family debts before she marries wealthy Edward Greystone. Unbeknownst to her, her grandfather harbors another secret which could bring the family name to ruin.

Secret Service operative Broderick Cosgrove works undercover to break up a counterfeit ring when he discovers a link between the ring and his former fiancee, Theresa. Can he prove her innocence without destroying his career? Will their past relationship be a help or a hindrance?

Caudill creates well-developed characters, descriptive narratives, and historical details in this Gilded Age novel. Filled with suspense and intrigue, the reader is engaged from the first page to the last. The story is set during the time of the great floods in Cincinnati (1880s). The faith elements address how to keep one’s trust in God when everything is going wrong. Themes of faith, trust, and redemption weave throughout the book.

Recommended for adult collections in public libraries as well as church libraries. Fans of Elizabeth Camden will delight in this new American historical fiction series. Readers will be eager to read the second book, Counterfeit Hope, coming in 2023.
